A Bosniak national council, which has not been recognized by Serbia's authorities, said they wold ask for support from Sarajevo. Sarajevo should help the council make problems faced by Bosniaks (Muslims) in Serbia an international issue, it was announced on Sunday in Novi Pazar. Muslim council seeks "internationalization of problems" A delegation of the council will travel to Bosnia, and seek assistance from that country's Muslim member of presidency, Bakir Izetbegovic, and also Bosnian Grand Mufti Mustafa Ceric. The delegation will tell Izetbegovic and Ceric about "permanent occurrences of discrimination and violations of rights of Bosniaks in Serbia", and seek backing in order to "internationalize" these problems, said a statement. The meeting yesterday was attended by representatives of two councilors from the Bosniak Revival list, and Muamer Zukorlic's Bosniak Cultural Alliance. Zukorlic is also at the helm of one of Serbia's two rival Islamic communities. When minority council elections were held in Serbia in June, the Bosniak Cultural Alliance won 17 out of 35 mandates. Subsequently two officials from the Bosniak Revival joined the Zukorlic group, and they formed the council. But the Bosniak Revival, the Bosniak List, and Serbia's authorities contest the legality of this and do not recognize the council formed in this way as legitimate. A view of Novi Pazar (FoNet, file)
