Democratic Party of Serbia leader Vojislav Kostunica has called upon the ruling parties to give up on “further tearing up of Serbia”. He called on the government to refrain from regionalization of the country and devote itself to true development and strengthening of local self-government. DSS: Stop tearing Serbia apart “We call upon the government today to give up on a devastating idea of further tearing up of Serbia, whose territorial integrity is seriously threatened, and dismantling it into regions,” Kostunica stressed at a presentation of DSS’ program for economic development of 21 towns and municipalities. He added that instead of regional bureaucracies, which will have to be paid for by impoverished citizens, all power should be directed at development of towns, villages, and local self-government in order to enable truly equal development of the entire country, as envisaged by the Constitution. “Strong development of the local self-government and not making up of regions as dwarf quasi-states represents the only right road that Serbia should take and that road has been determined by the Serbian Constitution,” the DSS leader pointed out and added that the ruling parties now advocated change of the Constitution which they had supported just a few years ago. Kostunica has announced that his party will soon make programs for each self-government in Serbia. Vojislav Kostunica (Beta)
