Serbia's new criminal code defines mechanisms that will make the fight against organized crime more efficient, Justice Minister Snezana Malovic says. Speaking at the final public debate about the bill, Malovic stated she expected the document to be sent to the parliament as soon as possible. Public debate on new criminal code According to her, the draft code introduces some new things in legal procedure, like prosecutor's investigation, confession agreement and a more efficient system of regular and ancillary remedies, all in an effort to boost the efficiency of legal procedure, protect human rights and ensure that trials are completed within a reasonable amount of time. The reform related to criminal proceedings must be conducted within the framework set by the European Convention on Human Rights and standards of the European Court of Human Rights, Malovic stressed.
