A reshuffle of the government will be meaningless if we do not get a new PM in the process, said Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic. “However, if it becomes obvious in 2011 that EU candidacy is jeopardized due to refusal to conduct a new policy, early elections will be necessary,” he told daily Danas. LDP: Serbia needs new PM According to Jovanovic, his party is interested in fundamental changes. When asked why he thought that Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic should resign, he said that “it is impossible to conduct the old policy and have a new government”. “We’re in deep trouble and we don’t have a prime minister. The thing is that the man is in a situation which he does not want and it is impossible to have a good prime minister, especially in these circumstances of ours, if he is not driven by an exceptional political energy but also ability to make a decision in difficult situations. Cvetkovic is not even showing such an ambition,” the LDP leader stressed. “Serbia needs a new policy,” he repeated. “The essence lies in a clear agreement on the government work – different tax policy and low taxes, helping the youth find their first job and apartment, strengthening of competition, putting pension fund in order, affirmation of human rights, NATO membership which would speed up reforms and increase investments, more efficient cooperation with the neighbors because our markets are there, restitution to municipalities,” Jovanovic concluded.
