LDP leader Cedomir Jovanovic says his party believes elections should take place in 2011. The currently ruling Democratic Party (DS) and LDP could then form a new, “pure European government”, he told Belgrade daily Blic in an interview. LDP: No EU with this government The current government, according to Jovanovic, will not lead Serbia to the European Union. “The day of the candidacy for the EU has to mark a social and political revolution. It is clear, however, that this government, which is afraid of its own shadow, cannot do it for as long as party employees, satisfied with surviving between two reshuffle announcements, dominate it,” Jovanovic said. Jovanovic believes that DS and LDP might be in the center of a “pure European government,” provided the “DS is not hiding behind the Serbian president”. He underscored that LDP wants to create policies as part of the next cabinet. Jovanovic believes that a possible alliance between DS and opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) would “stifle and deaden the potential of Serbia,” underscoring that the country does not need stability in maintaining the present situation but an essentially new policy.
