Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has criticized idea to move some institution from Belgrade to other parts of the country, claiming that this amounts to populism The ruling G17 Plus party, on the other hand, says that it is a beginning of the decentralization process. LDP, G17 plus on decentralization LDP MP Vesna Pesic is convinced that the G17 concept is wrong. There is an ongoing debate whether concept of equal regional development of Mladjan Dinkic’s party is sustainable or just a dead letter. “What they are offering, relocation of institutions, it has nothing to do with decentralization of authority, everything stays in Dinkic’s hands, he’ll keep dividing everything,” Pesic stressed. She claims that this is Dinkic’s political project aimed at strengthening his United Regions and that this is, as she said, primitivism and not decentralization. G17 plus had denied the allegations and head of the party parliamentary group Suzana Grubjesic has stated that Pesic is not well-informed. “I think that Pesic hasn’t read any of it, although we sent a platform to all heads of parliamentary groups, so she can take it from Mr. Jovanovic and take a look. When you criticize and attack something and think that Dinkic is behind it all, I expect a bit more serious arguments and her to suggest something. Why doesn’t she say whether there is life outside ‘tram no. two circle’ (a circle-line around downtown Belgrade), how devastated towns in Serbia are which we want to help this way,” she stressed. One of those devastated towns is Kragujevac and G17 Plus plans on moving National Employment Service there. Editor-in-Chief of Sumadija Press internet news outlet Branislav Cole Kovacevic also criticizes the idea. According to him, the idea is only a pre-election marketing and decentralization cannot happen unless changes to the Constitutions are made. “This is a process of deconcentration of institutions. Whether it is also deconcentration of authority, we can discuss that, but for starters let’s move them from Belgrade and spread them across Serbia,” Grubjesic pointed out. “This system has completely destroyed Serbia and if we keep it like this we won’t be able to hold on. The level of chaos which is growing over such political system has become so unbearable that we don’t know where to start. It’s like a snowdrift where not even shovels and bulldozers help,” she explained. In order for G17 Plus to implement its idea parliament needs to adopt laws prepared by the Economy and Regional Development Ministry. The parliament session began in mid-October.
