A court in Belgrade has found that Danube Foods Group has a monopoly in the milk market and that the company has abused its dominant position.

A court in Belgrade has found that Danube Foods Group has a monopoly in the milk market and that the company has abused its dominant position. Danube Foods operates a number of milk and dairy companies. Court in landmark monopoly ruling The court said the group dominates the market of raw milk bought from dairy farmers. B92 has had access to the ruling of the Administrative Court, which rejected an appeal lodged by Beko's company against an earlier decision concerning the same matter, issued by the Anti-Corruption Council. The new ruling says that Danube Foods has imposed unjust and unequal conditions on milk producers, in this way blocking the competition from entering the market, and placing producers in a dependent position. According to the court, the company in this way influenced dairy farmers not to invest in improvement of their production facilities. This is the first time that a Serbian court has found a company in breach of anti-trust regulations in any market. Politicians and media speculated previously that Danube Foods Group had the Salford investment fund behind it, which was represented in Serbia by businessman Milan Beko. Danube Foods said today they did not receive the court's ruling, and would not comment on the news.
