EU foreign ministers will decide on future of Serbia’s EU candidacy bid on Monday. Belgrade officials believe they have reasons to be optimistic. EU foreign ministers will decide whether to forward Serbia’s EU candidacy application to the European Commission. Optimism ahead of EU candidacy decision All EU member states except for the Netherlands are supporting the positive decision. Assistant Deputy PM for European Integrations Ksenija Milenkovic says that Belgrade should be optimistic. “I any case the Netherlands will stand by its request when it comes to cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, although a vast majority in the EU shares that opinion. In that sense, cooperation with the Hague Tribunal will remain condition for our next steps in the EU integration process,“ she told B92. “We shouldn't think that if our requests goes through on Monday that it means that this entire thing is forgotten. Therefore, it is important to say that the issue of the Hague Tribunal really needs to be solved as soon as possible, in order for the process to go smoothtly,“ Milenkovic stressed. She also explains that Brussels' main focus in the next period would be reforms in Serbia if the EU Council of Ministers made a positive decision. The assistant deputy PM for European integrations says that Serbia will be given a questionnaire if the decision goes through and that it would primarily focus on reforms in the country. “That would be the key issue in further accession process,“ she said. The process of European integration will to a large part deal with reforms instead of dealing with high political issues which was the case up until now, Milenkovic pointed out. Belgian EU presidency recently confirmed that a compromise had been reached with the Dutch and one of their representatives said that he expected a positive decision to be made on Monday. “Why wait some more to forward the candidacy bid, we've already waited long enough. Serbia has been acting positively last several months regarding the issue of Kosovo, it has accepted a dialogue which is a big step which we want to support,“ the Belgian official concluded.
