Belgrade was bracing for a football match flagged as a “high risk event”, but the Red Star-Partizan game went with no incidents inside or outside the stadium. Partizan won the game 1-0. No incidents during Belgrade derby Earlier today, authorities said they believed that there would be no incidents but there were about 5,000 police officers around the stadium and in the streets of downtown Belgrade. Members of MUP's Gendarmerie, riot police and mounted police were in charge of the area around the Red Star stadium. Belgrade Police Administration announced earlier that a large number of police officers would be videotaping supporters at the stadium, so they would be able to identify their leaders in case incidents occurred. Nearby streets were closed for traffic. The Serbian parliament adopted draft bill on amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code last night which enables authorities to extend detention from eight to 30 days for suspects who commit criminal acts with elements of violence for which the law envisages sentence longer than five years in prison. “As soon as you arrive at the stadium, you’ll see that there are no seats at the south stands. They were removed so they wouldn’t be used for some purposes they are not meant for, and were used in the past. So these experiences from the past should be used in order to prevent possible disorders. As far as problems are concerned, there won’t be any, I simply think that everybody understood the message,” Red Star Spokesman Marko Nikolovski explained. Control at the entrance to the stadium will be stepped up and metal detectors will be set. An increased number of stewards and police officers will be in charge of providing security at the stadium, although Red Star officials did not want to state the exact number. The state authorities are also ready. Police will videotape supporters around the stadium and as they arrive from other towns and neighboring countries. Belgrade Police Administration Chief Slobodan Vukolic has announced that many police officers wearing civilian clothes will be present at the stadium. “We expect that day as any other day, where there is possibility for some critical situation to happen. I will remind you that the prosecution has set up field duties, the competent prosecutor will be at the game itself, we expect the prosecution to fulfill its constitutional and legal obligation once again,” Republic Public Prosecution Spokesman Tomo Zoric pointed out. All public gatherings in the city that could contribute to violation of public law and order have been banned. Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas says he “is not happy” about the Red Star-Partizan derby, bearing in mind circumstances surrounding it. He called upon Belgrade citizens who did not go to the game to stay home before, during and after the match. The Red Star stadium
