A Danube wave carrying toxic materials from the Hungarian aluminum plant spill entered Serbia at 06:00 CET on Monday. That is when the pollution peaked, according to Branislav Gavric of the Republic Hydro-Meteorological Service of Serbia (RHMZ). Danube pollution low in Serbia Gavric said that subsequent analyses showed a low concentration of dangerous substances, but that water samples will be taken downstream near the town of Novi Sad. The latest analysis of water samples in Serbia was done late on Monday. Gavric explained that the Hungarian environmental disaster happened far from our borders, and that the Danube is "a huge river", which he described as favorable circumstances. Meanwhile in Hungary, the body of the eighth victim of the toxic sludge spill has been recovered. At the same time, experts are putting up an emergency dam to contain an expected second spill from the reservoir, the BBC reported. The chief executive of the industrial plant from which the sludge spilled has been taken in for questioning by police.
