NATO's Allied Joint Force Commander in Naples Admiral Mark Fitzgerald was in Kosovska Mitrovica on Friday. There he said that the situation in Kosovo has improved in the fields of security and economy. "Security, economic situation in Kosovo better" Admiral Fitzgerald stated during his visit to the northern part of the city that a long phase will follow the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the discussion in the UN General Assembly in which the two parties should get engaged in the talks. Fitzgerald added that there are still many challenges in the province related to the political and economic sphere, and the development of legal institutions. The U.S. admiral stated that the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) is not in charge of the rule of law domain, which is in jurisdiction of the United Nations (UN), adding that KFOR will offer protection in the field in cooperation with local municipal representatives. We hope that the rule of law will be established, but this is not part of our mandate or assignments, it is in the mandate of the UN and the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), he said.
