American representatives are not expected to take part in the future dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina directly. This is according to an article in the Belgrade daily Blic today, which quotes the paper's sources at the EU. "No direct U.S. involvement in Kosovo talks" The recently adopted UN GA resolution on Kosovo says that the talks will be conducted by the EU which rules out a direct role for the U.S., according to this. The American embassy in Belgrade yesterday confirmed that this country will not manage the talks "between Serbia and Kosovo", but did not rule out exerting a strong influence. The embassy's press service said that although the EU would take over the leadership in facilitating the dialogue, the U.S. intends to "constructively work with all sides" in order to ensure success. "The U.S., of course, supports Kosovo as an independent state, and believe that the dialogue will not revisit the issue of Kosovo's status," the daily quoted the embassy.
