The Competition Protection Commission has rejected a request from the Ministry of Agriculture to once again examine Salford's market position. The ministry has accused the group of having a monopoly in the dairy market, and blamed them for the recent milk shortages. Commission takes no action over Salford But the commission, which previously on two occasions dealt with the issue and found that Salford's Imlek and Suboticka dairies were abusing their dominant position in the market, said it could not look into the matter again at this point. A court is still deliberating an appeal filed against the commission's May 2009 findings. Now the commission president, Dijana Markovic-Bajalovic, says it would not be prudent to start a third investigation before the court makes a decision regarding the second. But she also noted that legislation had changed in the meantime, which meant that even if Salford's appeal were to be rejected in court, the monopolist would suffer no consequences. Markovic-Bajalovic explained that previous proceedings were conducted according to old laws, and that for procedural reasons, the commission could only hope to hand down penalties to Salford in a new procedure.
