The Serbian dinar (RSD) exchange rate against the euro "already at the current level provides a sufficiently strong incentive for exports increase. The weakening of the domestic currency will also help with the balance of payments adjustment, Vice-Governor of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Bojan Markovic said on Monday, stressing that only part of the incentive is visible at the moment, while its full effect has yet to be realized. "Exchange rate good for exports" “It is unwise to forecast the movement of the RSD nominal exchange rate, because it is difficult to predict with certainty whether there will be a new significant global or regional fluctuation. However, the main macroeconomic indicators show that already now, according to NBS estimates, the real exchange rate of the Serbian dinar has been slightly underestimated,” Markovic said. According to him, the RSD depreciation is in great part due to psychological factors, rather than to real causes. “Psychologically induced depreciation cannot contribute to strengthening macroeconomic stability and achieving the NBS goals,” Markovic said in a statement that was reported by the NBS press office.
