EULEX: Peaceful in northern Kosovo

EULEX Mission Chief Yves de Kermabon said that the situation in northern Kosovo is currently peaceful. Upon returning from the UN Security Council meeting dedicated to Kosovo in New York, he said that it is important for everyone to refrain from actions that could be perceived as provocations. EULEX: Peaceful in northern Kosovo “EULEX, in cooperation with the police, is very decisive in looking for and prosecuting those who committed the tragic and fatal incidents on July 2, and the shooting on July 5,” Kermabon said. He said that there has been no agreement for deploying special police units to northern Kosovo, and that EULEX will continue to cooperate with all sides in order to form and train a multi-ethnic special police force. “It is important that all the sides that are involved refrain from any activities that could potentially be seen as provocations,” he said. Kermabon said that the District Court in Kosovoska Mitrovica must begin working again, and that the best way to achieve this is to cooperate with all sides. “I am not prepared to give a date of when this could happen, but I am calling on all involved sides to work toward finding a pragmatic solution as soon as possible,” Kermabon said.
