The United States annually allocate about USD 50 million to Serbia, American ambassador to Serbia Mary Warlick stated. She added that these funds are mainly used to assist the country in preparation for its EU accession and to implement Western standards. U.S. assisting in EU accession preparation The U.S. embassy in Belgrade also gives these funds for programs intended to strengthen the rule of law and suppress corruption, support reforms of the justice system, police, and local institutions, as well as the promotion of transparent business practices. “It is difficult to explain all our exchange program in a couple of sentences, but we spend over USD 5mn per year in order to provide an opportunity to hundreds of Serbian officials, members of the state administration and parliament, and citizens to visit the U.S.,” Warlick told the Tanjug news agency. Warlick said that all those program are aimed at helping Serbia deal with issues that are important for the EU integration process.
