The Serbian parliament finished the discussion on the amendments to the Law on the National Bank of Serbia (NBS)on Wednesday. MPs covered all the items on the agenda of the second extraordinary session which will be put up for a vote on June 29. Parliament finishes debate on NBS law The session which had six bills and two proposals on the agenda commenced on June 7 . The amendments to the Law on NBS, bills on electronic communication, expert witnesses, amendments to the Law on Higher Education and two proposals regarding the participation of the Serbian army and other defense forces in multinational operations in 2010 were on the agenda of the National Assembly's second extraordinary session. During the debate on the amendments to the Law on NBS, the opposition reiterated that the new solutions will politicize the institution while outgoing NBS Governor Radovan Jelasic noted that the amendments significantly improve NBS's autonomy and independence. The opposition criticized the work of Jelasic and NBS and demanded that the outgoing governor explain the reasons of his resignation. The Serb Radical Party and Serb Progressive Party criticized NBS's exchange rate, credit and interest rate policies, while the Liberal Democratic Party said that Jelasic was only a "commentator of the economic policy" that he did nothing to change its course and that he resigned his post "in silence".
