MUP Emergency Situations Sector Chief Predrag Maric said that the water levels of the Danube River near Novi Sad are expected to peak on Monday. He said that the water level in Belgrade is expected to stagnate and decrease starting Wednesday. Danube water level expected to peak Maric said that the situation will improve on Wednesday in Novi Sad and areas that were hit harder with flooding like Beocin, adding that work on landslides and various other problems will be done once the water recedes. He said that teams would be ready to react over the next two days if the water level increases and causes trouble, though experts do not expect any further problems. Maric added that there would be new legal obligations for all emergency institutions implemented in July and precisely defined, adding that these rules will serve as guidelines for all local self-administration and as an obligation to form departments for emergency situations locally. Maric also said that his sector was prepared for the summer, adding that the humid air and high temperatures were a mix that could lead to forest fires that are the hardest to put out, and called on citizens to refrain from throwing out cigarette butts and other flammable material while in wooded areas.
