The EU will most likely approve the start of the ratification process for the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA). Once Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz gives his report on Serbia’s cooperation with the Tribunal, the EU Council of Ministers is expected to approve the ratification process of the SAA with Serbia, officials of the Spanish presidency told journalists in Brussels. Unfreezing of SAA “fairly certain” The European ministers will “confirm their dedication to the European perspective of the Western Balkans, in accordance with the Thessaloniki Program for including the Western Balkans countries in the EU,” the document being prepared for the EU meeting states. EU Foreign Ministers will also discuss when the best time would be to send Serbia’s application for candidate status to the European Commission, which Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos has recommended as the FM of the country currently presiding over the EU. The European Ministers expect to hear Brammertz’s evaluation of the Hague cooperation efforts of all the countries of the former Yugoslavia, but particularly Serbia and Croatia.
