Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said that Uruguay supports the preservation of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. He said that it was once again confirmed during his meetings in Montevideo that Serbia can count on the political support of Uruguay. Interior minister in Uruguay “Uruguay is one of the friendly countries that I have thanked for its principle stance on the support of our territorial integrity,” Dacic said, reminding that Uruguay, along with most Latin American countries, have not recognized Kosovo’s unilateral independence. Dacic said that his visit was the first official bilateral contact in a long time between Serbia and Uruguayan officials. “It is certain that cooperation could be better,” Dacic said, adding that Serbia and Uruguay almost have no cooperation at all, which is a big mistake. He said that ties with Uruguay and other Latin American countries should be rejuvenated, adding that “different documents need to be prepared—for visa abolishment between the two countries, economic and police cooperation as well.” Dacic spent all week in South America, visiting Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, in the goal of establishing better cooperation in stopping drug trafficking activities, particularly cocaine smuggling.
