B92 has received unofficial information that Milos Simovic, convicted of participating in the assassination of prime minister Zoran Djindjic, has been arrested. According to sources, he was arrested at the border between Serbia and Croatia while trying to enter the country illegally. He was convicted and sentenced to 40 years in prison for participating in the Djindjic assassination and 19 other murders, three kidnappings and two terrorism cases as a member of the Zemun Clan crime group. Police have been looking for Simovic for the better part of seven years. Croatian police began searthing for him two days ago after another Zemun Clan member, Sretko Kalinic, was located in the country. Police believe that Simovic was responsible for shooting Kalinic several days ago. Analyst Zoran Dragisic told B92 his arrest is good news that shows that the Serbia and Croatian police are cooperating well. “These organized crime groups that work in the Southeast Europe region represent a united problem not only for Serbia and Croatia, but for all countries of the region,” he said. Once his identity is confirmed, he is expected to be imprisoned, according to court and police sources.
