Kosovo: Serb returnee attacked

A Serb returnee sustained head injuries on Sunday after he was attack in one of the two camps in the village of Zac. This was confirmed by Serb representative from nearby Istok Vesna Malikovic. Milovanovic was hit by a stone said to have been thrown by one family members of ethnic Albanian suspects arrested previously for firing at the returnees from automatic weapons. Police said they had the suspect in the latest incident, a 26-year-old, in custody. The returnees have been subjected to harassment that ranges from protests to stoning and shooting incidents ever since two dozen families returned there in March, after 10 years in exile. Local Albanians claim that there are “war criminals” among them, while Serbs reject this and say the issue is with their property, which Albanians had been using for the past decade. The returnees went back to their village on their own, but UNHCR has provided tents where they now live. The tent camp has been under KFOR protection since the shooting incidents.
