Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said that the government’s economic program provides a good foundation for getting out of the economic crisis. However, he said that the burden of the economic crisis must be divided evenly and justly. Croatian President supports govt. economic plan “At this moment, the government’s measures presents a good foundation and they should be implemented as soon as possible,” Josipovic said. The crisis taxes that were voted into law last July would be implemented until the end of this year. The lower rate of two percent, which will be abolished in July, taxes all earnings in between EUR 410 and 820, and a four percent tax rate, which will be in power until November, taxes all earning great than EUR 820. At Saturday’s session of the Croatian assembly, MPS adopted a decision for abolishing the taxes, which the opposition opposed, calling for all the taxes to be abolished at once, considering that the upper level of earnings does not represent wealthy people by any means, rather the Croatian middle-class. State Secretary Ivica Mladineo said that the crisis tax is being abolished because the goal which the taxes were introduced for would be met, and the income will enable all state services to function properly and be able to pay all state obligations, especially wages and pensions.
