After the trilateral meeting between Serbian, Turkish and Bosnian officials in Istanbul, President Boris Tadic said that EU integration is a joint interest. Tadic, Turkish President Abdullah Gul, and Bosnian Presidency member Haris Silajdzic agreed after Saturday’s meeting that regional policies for the future should be based on securing safety, constant political dialogue and preserving the multiethnic, multicultural and multireligious character of the region. The “courageous and visionary approaches” of Tadic and Silajdzic, and their “decisiveness in trying to overcome historical differences and build a united future” based on tolerance and understanding, was highlighted at the meeting. All three members of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Presidency Silajdzic, Nebojsa Radmanovic and Zeljko Komsic will be visiting Belgrade soon, according to the declaration. Tadic and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be visiting Srebrenica on the 15th anniversary of the crimes as well. Tadic said that the summit in Istanbul was a new beginning for all three countries, adding that all three countries have had their ups and downs. One of the main interests for all three countries is European integration, Tadic said, adding that support between the countries on their roads towards the Union will be proof of the joint vision all three nations are dedicated to, Tadic said. He also stressed that Serbia supports the legitimate decisions being made by the Bosnia-Herzegovina institutions and government. Gul said that the trilateral meetings and friendly relations between the three countries are important for the future, peace, prosperity and united European vision of the Balkans. “We are also happy to see that relations between Bosnia and Serbia are getting better, especially in the last six months. The Foreign Ministers of the three countries made great efforts in their joint meetings to contribute to better relations in the region. Also, the naming of a Bosnian ambassador in Belgrade is a very important step ahead. I want to congratulate President Tadic for the adoption of the resolution condemning the crimes in Srebrenica in the Serbian parliament,” Gul said.
