Spanish FM Miguel Angel Moratinos did not exert any influence on the representatives of any Western Balkan country regarding the recent conference in Slovenia. This includes Serbian President Boris Tadic, who did not to attend the conference in Brdo-pri-Kranju, said Spanish State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Angel Losada. Spain did not influence conference snub He added that this came as the EU supports improving regional cooperation. Spain is currently presiding over the Union. Tadic was absent from the Saturday gathering as Serbia insisted that Kosovo Albanian officials could only take part as Kosovo-UNMIK. However, Losada affirmed Moratinos' position that Spain, as president of the EU, would establish its efforts to organize a meeting between the top EU and Western Balkan officials in May or June in Sarajevo on respect for international law, with the goal of having all sides in the region at the assembly. After a meeting between EU officials and Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Jandrokovic, the Spanish secretary of state underscored that, while relying on international law, a precedent still existed. He said it was "still early to discuss the formula for having both Kosovo and Serbia at the conference in Sarajevo", adding that this still had to be worked out based on certain precedents. Losada stressed that "we will do everything" to make that happen. Losada pointed out that the Slovenia conference would be built on by the meeting in Sarajevo and therefore contribute to the mechanism of regional cooperation. "That is why we did not intervene at any point or do anything to have someone fail to take part at such a conference," he stated.
