EU and Serbian officials have signed an agreement on EU's financial assistance package for Serbia in the amount of EUR 70mn. The agreement was signed today by the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Vincent Degert, and Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic in Novi Sad. Serbia gets EUR 70mn of EU assistance According to the announcement of the EU Delegation office, the EU's financial assistance package from the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA), in the amount of EUR 70 million, will be added to the EUR 100mn of budget assistance that Serbia has already received. The assistance package envisages support for the projects from which the Serbian citizens will directly benefit, as well as the assistance in the continuation of political and economic reforms necessary for the country's further progress in EU integration. With this package, the EU shows its continuing support to Serbia's EU integration, Degert pointed out. Serbia has achieved great progress in 2009, he added. Degert announced continued support for the infrastructural projects in Serbia and for the improvement of the citizens' quality of life by enhancing health care, education, food and environmental safety, by establishing a functional rule of law system and strengthening the civil society.
