Serbia's bid to become EU candidate will not be on the agenda of the February meeting of the union, Vecernje Novosti daily writes. The Belgrade newspaper explains that the application is currently with the European Council, until the ministers ask the European Commission to produce its opinion. EU candidate bid won't be discussed The daily says that experiences so far, and Serbia's "specific" position due to the "Hague question", indicate that it is still early for the application to be considered. The decision to send it to the commission usually takes several months. Serbia officially applied to be granted candidate status last December. Optimists say that in Serbia's case this could happen "some time in the spring", while others assume that it would happen in June, after Chief Hague Prosecutor Serge Brammertz files his new report.
