Zannier: Situation in Kosovo stable

UNMIK Chief Lamberto Zannier said at the UN Security Council session that the situation in Kosovo is peaceful and stable. However, he said that there is a possibility of destabilization in the north. Zannier: Situation in Kosovo stable Zannier said that the Kosovo Serbs in the north boycotted the local elections, but that Serbs south of the Ibar River participated in larger numbers than ever before. He said that tensions have increased in the north because of the problems with electricity as well. He said that he hopes that an agreement will be able to be reached between the Kosovo Energy Corporation and Serbian Electric. Once again, big powers America and China expressed differing opinions regarding Kosovo at the UN Security Council meeting. The U.S. stated that Kosovo is strengthening relations with neighboring countries and that it is ready to take on a significant role in the region, while Chinese officials said that Beijing respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia in Kosovo.
