Canadian authorities are seriously considering imposing visa requirements on visitors from Hungary, reports are saying. The move would be aimed at cutting off a growing flood of refugee applicants, mainly from the Roma community. Number of refugee claims kept rising after Canada lifted visa requirements for the Hungarian citizens in the spring of 2008. Since the spring of last year, however, the steady increase of members of the Roma population has turned into a flood. After the visa requirements were lifted, the number of refugee claims made every month was between 20 and 40. Since last fall the number of claims has increased to 200 per month, which makes Hungary one of the top three source countries of refugee claimants.
