Opposition Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic spoke against Serbia's genocide countersuit against Croatia. The move represents a continuation of Serbia's "poor approach to and rambling in foreign policies", said he. LDP slams govt. over Croatia suit Despite the clear objections of LDP, the Serbian government continues to lead the wrong policies towards a majority of the countries in the region, and in that way, dramatically worsens relations that these countries have with Serbia, Jovanovic said. “Our government must understand that European Union membership candidacy obligates Serbia to begin to behave like a European country,” he said. “In this project, cooperation and partnerships with Croatia must take a central position. The suit of Croatia against Serbia was submitted 11 years ago and represents a result of the wars of the 1990s which were determined by Milosevic and Tudjman,” he said. He said that Serbia needs smart foreign policies "that will not respond to a mistake with its own mistake". “Unfortunately, the countersuit sends Serbia and its society back to the atmosphere and political moves that were characteristic of that time [1990s]. The fate of Serbs in Croatia who heavily suffered because of the policies orchestrated in Belgrade, should now serve as a way to start a process that is unnecessary and destined to fail,” Jovanovic said. He added that there is no protection of state interests in this move, and that it could cause harm to citizens who have already suffered because of the wrong policies that have been led for over 20 years. “LDP demands a special meeting of the parliament at which a debate would be held on the foreign policy of the country, because such decision cannot represents the will of one minister or one party in power,” Jovanovic said.
