Leader of the opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) Vojislav Kostunica has held a number of meetings at the Congress of the European People's Party (EPP). At the gathering, held in Bonn, Germany on December 9-10, Serbia's former prime minister for two terms said he insisted that in the dialogue with Serbia's European partners, the country should be treated as a whole. Kostunica: Only whole Serbia should join Europe "Only as a whole, which includes Kosovo and Metohija, Serbia should be given the place that belongs to it in Europe,” stressed Kostunica and added that this is the legitimate interest of Serbia. “Serbia has strong arguments on its side, but I want to point out that if the country does not continually insist on an open dialogue with the EU, no one will be motivated to support its interests and to move this issue, which is perhaps the only problem disturbing the relations between Serbia and the EU, from a standstill,” Kostunica told Tanjug in a phone statement from Bonn. The EPP congress was extremely useful in this respect, he evaluated, adding that the meeting was a chance to have talks with the leaders of many European countries and that the EPP, its congresses and other meetings represent a good and important forum which comprises dialogues on all issues, and especially the dialogue on Serbia-EU relations, which is very important for our country, Kostunica stressed. The DSS leader underscored that his party is taking part in the regular EPP Statutory Congress which gathers the parties of the center-right, national parties, as well as demo-Christians and conservatives, and pointed out that the EPP “is the most influential group of parties in Europe in general.”
