Political analyst Zoran Stoiljkovic said that Sunday’s election results in the Belgrade municipality of Vozdovac were expected. He added that there is a possibility that new general elections in Serbia could take place in the second half of 2010. Nikolic party local poll win "expected" Stoiljkovic told B92 that despite the campaigns and marketing, only about two-fifths of registered voters in the municipality participated in the elections. “Nothing here is unexpected, but it is interesting that in this campaign that was dubbed the fight for Vozdovac, only slightly more people participated than in June, which is normal taking into consideration the period in which the elections were held. These elections showed that the voters are apathetic,” he said. Stoiljkovic added that parliamentary elections could come in a time when the government feels that it will be best to organize them, instead of waiting for a full election period to pass, adding that there is a strong possibility for a reconstruction of the government which will present the possibility of rationalizing the cabinet, and decreasing the number of ministers. He said that citizens have been dominantly insisting for the last five to seven years on the questions of the quality of life, employment, the living standard, and the fight against corruption, and that it can be assumed that most voters who support the Democratic Party (DS) stayed at home on Sunday. The growth trend of the Serb Progressive Party (SNS) continued with a victory that took more than a third of the vote, taking over the Radical Party’s (SRS) voters and coming into the position of being able to form a coalition in Vozdovac with the DSS-NS coalition. Stoiljkovic said that DS "did not have poor election results or a loss", but that there is "no reason to be too satisfied", and that the party must “profile” itself. He added that citizens are not content with the political elite and want a "more responsible and less corrupt government". SNS took 37 percent of the Vozdovac vote, while the DS-led “For a better Vozdovac” coalition finishing second with 28.45 percent. People vote in Vozdovac on Sunday (Tanjug)
