Belgrade Daily Danas writes that the interim trade agreement between Serbia and the EU will "almost certainly" be activated at the EU summit on Dec. 10. According to the daily’s sources, the Netherlands intends to agree to unfreezing the agreement, which is the economic part of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), and which Serbia has been implementing unilaterally since January. "Trade deal unfreezing almost certain" However, the Dutch will continue to block the ratification of the SAA itself until Hague fugitive Ratko Mladic is arrested and extradited, the article says. The Serbian Government’s European Integration Office Director Milica Delevic told Danas that the progress of Serbia’s integration and the EU enlargement strategy will be discussed at the December 10 summit in Brussels. “This is a chance to talk about Serbia, but I cannot say in what direction the talks will head. That depends on the president and governments of the member-states and how they see the progress report,” Delevic said. The European Commission states in that report that it supports the unfreezing of the interim trade agreement, and that Serbia is accumulating a “track record” for implementing the agreement unilaterally for an entire year. “Whether the interim trade agreement will be unfrozen depends on what will be written in the report of Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz,” Delevic said. According to unofficial information, Brammertz did not report “full cooperation” in his report, but did say that he was “satisfied” with the cooperation level. The source stated that Brammertz adds in his report that he believes that cooperation will continue until Mladic and fellow Hague fugitive Goran Hadzic are arrested.
