At the 20th Central European Initiative (CEI) Summit, FM Vuk Jeremic said that Serbia had been working on bringing the entire Balkans closer to the EU. “We promoted political integration through the South-East Europe Cooperation Process (SEECP) and Regional Cooperation Council (RCC)." Jeremic speaks at 20th CEI meeting "We have taken over leadership to insure that the UN Alliance of Civilizations has powerful and vivid regional context by working together on encouraging inter-cultural dialogue and completion of a painful reconciliation process,” he said in Bucharest on Thrusday. The foreign minister stated that Serbia had been encouraging economic integration through trans-border infrastructural projects such as Corridor 7 and 10, and agreements on free trade, such as CEFTA. He expressed his belief that CEI could help Serbia join the EU faster and that it “continued to serve as an important connection between the countries members of the EU in the region and the contender countries” by carrying out regional cooperation. Foreign ministers of Italy, Romania and Hungary, who also attended, spoke in favor of EU integration of all the countries of the Western Balkans. “Not a single country of the Western Balkans should be left outside the EU and integration of the entire Western Balkans should be a priority,” said the Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini. He added that Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus, members of CEFTA, should be closer to the EU. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Balas told the conference that CEI’s most important goal should be integration of the countries of the Western Balkans and bringing Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus closer to the EU. Their Romanian counterpart Catalin Predoiu also pointed out that Romania supported European integration of Serbia and all other countries of the Western Balkans.
