Deputy leader of the opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) Aleksandar commented on the draft law on the jurisdictions of Vojvodina. Vucic stated that the proposed legislation “cannot have such a form and cannot bear such a name since it is anti-constitutional”. Progressives join DSS in opposing law His comments concerned the working version revealed yesterday, and came before PM Mirko Cvetkovic announced that additional proposed amendments would be accepted. Vucic told B92 that according to what they had seen, the difference between the new draft and the original proposal was only symbolic, and added that "nothing had changed". "On the contrary, the anti-constitutional character of the draft law is even more evident now," he stressed. According to Vucic, the Serbian Constitution defines the jurisdictions of the Vojvodina Province and it cannot be modified by an act which is of minor consequence. Vucic wondered if there was any need for the statute at all, and said he believed that "all the fuss over the issue had been raised only to distract public attention from more important matters". But he also noted that the document would “open the door for Vojvodina's secession”. On Tuesday, another opposition party – the DSS – also criticized the draft as "unconstitutional and separatist". The draft law must be sent to MPs along with the proposed text of the Vojvodina statute.
