Ruling Socialists (SPS) parliamentary group chief Branko Ruzic today commented on the process of adopting the statute of Vojvodina. He said in Belgrade on Tuesday that the respect of the Serbian Constitution has to be the starting point for the draft of the Law on Determining the Jurisdiction of Vojvodina. Ruling Socialists on Vojvodina statute Ruzic told a press conference that the government's working group drafted the proposed law and that the Socialists gave their full contribution "so that the draft embodies the very statute of Vojvodina which should be adopted in parliament, would see the light of the day". He also stated that the draft had not been discussed at the government sessions thus far and that it would be debated in parliament once the parliamentary procedure was over. “Anyway, I expect that it will happen very soon and that we will do everything in our power to ensure that the law and the statute are adopted in parliament,” he said. The SPS official stressed that his party had insisted from the beginning that this law should be harmonized with the highest legal act of the country – the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia. Ruzic said that he could not talk about the details but that he was convinced that the text of the draft incorporated the parts which were not harmonized with the Constitution previously. "It's something that has to be in the draft, not because of SPS but because of all the parties present in the Serbian parliament and the Vojvodina assembly and because of the fact that we are obliged to respect the highest legal act,“ he pointed out.
