Leader of the newly formed SDPS party Rasim Ljajic says he will continue with his engagement in the Sandzak Democratic Party (SDP) as well. This, the labor minister in the Cvetkovic cabinet told Belgrade daily Politika, is because he has "responsibility toward voters in Sandzak as well". Ljajic to head one, "be active" in another party On December 12, Ljajic expects that some 4,000 delegates will gather in Belgrade for the official founding congress of the Social-Democratic Party of Serbia (SDPS). Meanwhile, according to him, SDP will "continue to exist and be the strongest party" in Serbia's southwestern Sandzak region. "I am not the president of the Sandzak Democratic Party. Resat Hodzic is. When I formed the Social-Democratic Party of Serbia it was inappropriate for me to head two political parties, but it's certain that SDP will be on the SDPS list in the next election," Ljajic was quoted as saying. "I've never mentioned cooperation with the Progressives [SNS]. We have very clearly stated that our first partner is the Democratic Party. Our potential partner is the Socialist Party of Serbia, which is placed left of center. We wish to overcome this bloc division which exists in Serbia's political scene," he continued. "We wish for the party to be a respectable factor and we are preparing to take part in elections individually. We will certainly talk to DS as our strategic partner before elections. Afterwards, if we participate alone, we can talk to SNS too, depending on the results." Ljajic also added that he was "in no way ruling out G17 Plus". "They are a party right of center, they are a part of that European people's group, but we share similar or the same values and I see no problem for us to one day sit together in the government," he said. Ljajic stated that the new party "ought to protect rights of workers, unemployed persons, vulnerable and other social groups".
