Boris Tadic says Serbia has "no ambition to resolve the issue of Kosovo in a way that would deprive the Albanians in the province of their legitimate rights". In an interview published by the Ljubljana-based daily Dnevnik on Saturday, the Serbian president said that he wishes to establish a new phase in the relations with the states in the territory of the former Yugoslavia, based on fairness and European future. "We don't look to deprive K. Albanians of rights" "I believe that we should look at the problems created in the territory of the former Yugoslavia through fairness, which is something [Slovenian] President Danilo Turk and I have agreed on," said Tadic, who was in Ljubljana last week for a two-day official visit. Tadic also evaluated that the principle of fairness that Slovenia is striving for in its relations with Croatia should also apply to Serbia. Tadic recalled that disputes are traditional in the region and that the only way to overcome them is to take a new approach and reach a comprehensive solution. "This means that we would have to get integrated into the European Union all together, and to search for pragmatic solutions at the same time," underscored the president. He welcomed Slovenia's decision to lift its blockade on Croatia's negotiations on its accession in the EU and resolution of the border dispute through arbitration. He also commented on the relations with Croatia, saying that he hopes mutual genocide charges filed with the International Court of Justice will be dropped. Tadic criticized the authorities in Croatia for discouraging Serbs to return to that country by using "secret indictments".
