Rasim Ljajic, founder of the Social Democratic Party of Serbia, is proposing a rationalization according to which the government would have 15 members. According to this, the Serbian parliament would then have 150 MPs. New party proposes state apparatus reform Ljajic’s plan for decreasing the size of the state institutions, according to Belgrade daily Blic, calls for the government being made up a small number of people from politics, while the rest would be professionals who would not be changed as governments come and go. The plan is part of the program of the new Social Democratic Party of Serbia, which is expected to be registered by the end of the week and hold its founding congress in the coming months. The plan also calls for the abolishing of all agencies that have authorities that coincide with existing ministries and the completion of a detailed analysis of all jobs in the state administration in order to confirm how effective they are. The prime minister would only have one deputy, while every minister would have one deputy with full political capacities which would enable them to replace the minister if need be. “This is a good foundation for forming future governments. I also advocate that the existing government be smaller, but with the number of parties we have in the government, such a proposal is not realistic,” Ljajic said of the current coalition in power, made up of over a dozen parties. The Sandzak politician, until now leader of the SDP, said that because of frequent elections, there can be no depoliticization of the state administration, because parties bring in their own people after every elections. Should the new idea meet with acceptance, the government would have continuity, "because there wouldn't be bartering with the number of ministries," said Ljajic.
