Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac says the decision to cut KFOR troop numbers should be made in agreement with the Serbian authorities. Sutanovac told journalists that the Serbian officials believe that KFOR has made the decision based on thorough analyses. Sutanovac pointed out that this is a serious military force, underscoring that Serbia insisted that in case of destabilization, KFOR should be the first to react. He stated that the situation in the province is not completely stable since organized crime is still present, adding that it is well known that organized crime finances terrorism. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said during a recent visit to Pristina that the western military alliance has decided to gradually reduce the number of KFOR soldiers, adding that the first step will be taken in January 2010 when the number would be cut to 10,000.
