The Cacak Municipal Court Investigative Judge Darko Markovic said that he believes the driver suddenly swerved from his lane to hit a steel pole. The car then plunged into a lake. The judge said that technical examination of the vehicle and the post mortems would provide accurate information about the causes of the accident. He added that the investigation so far does not indicate that there was contact with another car. Miladin Selovic, who was fishing at the lake at the time of the accident, came to the survivors' rescue. He and a friend also stopped a bus and a truck in order to tie up the crashed car, to prevent it from sinking. "I wouldn't say there was braking, or hooting, no one was interfering, what happened is he hit the pole and slid down. Perhaps he fell asleep or something in the car malfunctioned," said Selovic.
