Belgrade daily Blic writes that there will most likely be a reconstruction of the government in the fall. The newspaper also writes this Tuesday that party leaders are meeting informally and engaging in "serious talks" on this subject. Govt. reshuffle in works, claims daily According to this, the most prominent topic is the changing of some ministers, but also decreasing the number of ministries, though no agreement has been reached between the coalition partners and it is not yet known whether there will be a majority supporting the changes. Just as during preparations in March for the first rebalance of the budget, the idea of slashing down of the number of ministries "will stay at the level of a cosmetic change, while there are no talks fundamental cuts and rationalization of the number of ministries", the newspaper's government sources were quoted. Blic’s sources remind that "the European optimum number of ministries and right number" for a country the size of Serbia is 15, but that this is option is not being considered, and that it is more likely that the number could decrease from the current 25 to 20. With this move, the government would show that it is dedicated to save money and cut public spending, Blic’s sources say. This scaling down of government portfolios would "likely use the formula that last spring - as an unofficial information about a deal struck by DS and G17 leaders - envisaged that the Democrats forego three ministries, while SPS and G17 would lose one each". However, back when this formula was first launched, the Socialists were against it, and its officials refused to give up any of their ministries, or have it merge with another.
