Anniversary of 1941 slaying of patriots

Most Belgraders seem unaware that today marks the anniversary of the 1941 deaths of five people in Terazije, in central Belgrade. This is despite the fact that the location where the five faced death by hanging at the hands of occupying German Nazis, has been marked with a monument and a memorial plaque in 1983. Historian Cedomir Antic explains that during an uprising against the Nazi occupation of Serbia, from July until December 1941, 37,000 civilians were murdered, with August that year having a particularly high death toll. The Terazije monument dedicated to the executed patriots is not the only one that has been almost forgotten, with many other memorials across Serbia facing the same fate.
