The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is considering a EUR 35mn euro loan to Belgrade. The money would be used for modernization of a metropolitan-wide suburban rail transit system for greater Belgrade, as part of the overall City Transport Development Strategy, it was announed. EBRD considering railway loan The suburban rail system will involve the transformation of the existing suburban passenger rail operator, Beovoz, owned by Serbian Railways, into a Joint Venture train operating company to be majority controlled by the City of Belgrade. The project is to be co-financed with the European Investment Bank (EIB), EBRD said on its website.
