Guča: First day breaks crowd records
According to organizers' first and unofficial estimates, the first day of the Guča festival saw several tens of thousands visitors.

According to organizers' first and unofficial estimates, the first day of the Guca festival saw several tens of thousands visitors. Numerous revelers arrived to the tiny town that is hosting the country's biggest brass band competition as early as Tuesday night. The 49th Dragacevo Assembly of Trumpeters – which is the event's official name – opened on Wednesday when the only living participant of the 1961 inaugural edition, Dragan Jovanovic, raised the flag to the tune of the festival's anthem, to salvos of ceremonial gunfire. Opening the event, Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic said that aside from athletes, Guca is the most recognizable brand of Serbia. The organizers issued an official call to the presidents of Russia and U.S., Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama, and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, to attend the next year's 50th anniversary event, when the festival will bring together trumpeters from across the globe. Festival Committee chairman Slobodan Jolovic said he expects President Boris Tadic to open the festival next year. Guca hopes to welcome some half a million visitors, including 30,000 foreigners, this year. Vehicle traffic has increased considerably on all access roads to Guca, especially on the Ibar highway.
