Čavić becomes “our neighbor”

A year after the start of a Fund B92 campaign dubbed “Čavić for a neighbor,” Serbia’s champion swimmer Milorad Čavić <a href="http://www.b92.net/eng/news/society-article.php?yyyy=2009&mm=08&dd=04&nav_id=60950" class="text-link" target= "_blank">moved into his Belgrade apartment</a>.

A year after the start of a Fund B92 campaign dubbed “Cavic for a neighbor,” Serbia’s champion swimmer Milorad Cavic moved into his Belgrade apartment. A majority of the media reported that Cavic finally received a home, in the Belgrade suburb of Bezanijska Kosa, but few noted that Fund B92 was the organization that animated the sponsors to help the cause. Cavic becomes “our neighbor” The keys to the 84 square meter apartment, bought and furnished through donations, were given to Cavic by Fund B92 President Veran Matic. After six years and many promises, Serbia’s most successful swimmer finally has a home in Belgrade. Considering that he has been promised an apartment on and off for six years, Cavic said that Serbia has finally not disappointed him. “I will no longer have to wonder where I will sleep in Serbia. This is now my place and I will come here every time when I’m on vacation,” Cavic said. He thanked everyone in Serbia for supporting him. The campaign was also supported by President Boris Tadic. He said that it is important to support citizen-led initiatives in order for successful people like Cavic to receive apartments. “If the ‘Cavic as a neighbor' campaign continues, I am afraid that he will get many apartment, because many will want him as a neighbor,” Tadic said. Matic also thanked the sponsors who donated money, including Simpo, the Serbian Building Directorate, Mladenovac Ceramics, Espana Ceramics, Polymit, Minotti, Sika and Eglo Lighting. (B92)

Considering that he has been promised an apartment on and off for six years, Čavić said that Serbia has finally not disappointed him.

“I will no longer have to wonder where I will sleep in Serbia. This is now my place and I will come here every time when I’m on vacation,” Čavić said.

He thanked everyone in Serbia for supporting him.
