A debate on Kosovo is set to start at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in December. The UN General Assembly last fall accepted Serbia's resolution on the issue of the Kosovo Albanian unilateral declaration of independence, and ordered the court to give its advisory opinion on the legality of the proclamation. ICJ Kosovo debate in December The court has announced that the public debate, set to last for several days, will enable interested UN member-countries, as well as representatives of Kosovo's government, to present their positions on this issue. The court will register parties that wish to participate by September 15. So far, 36 states have submitted their written statements in the case, as have Kosovo Albanian representatives, but until the start of the debate those statements will remain confidential.
