Strpce municipal assembly councilors support the signing of a collective agreement with KEK regarding electricity supply to the Sirnicka Zupa region of Kosovo. Municipal assembly Speaker Bojan Savic said that it was agreed that a mobile team from the Kosovo Electric Corporation (KEK) should come to Strpce and begin collecting the installments of EUR 26 per household. K. Serb councilors push for agreement He said that it was also decided that Strpce municipal president Stanko Jakovljevic will offer guarantees –via the Kosovo institutions and as a councilor in the Serb assembly on the Democratic Party ticket - for the security of the KEK workers that would come to collect the money. Savic explained that there was no decision made on the KEK demand to gain over the substation in the village owned by the state power company EPS. President of the Serb municipality of Strpce Zvonko Mihajlovic said that the substation is open and that there are no EPS workers there, but they can enter as soon as today. Mihajlovic blames foreign KEK managers from the U.S. embassy for the situation, claiming that they are putting new conditions to the Serb side every time a general agreement is reached. Stanko Jakovljevic said that he received a letter on Friday from KEK director in Urosevac Izet Rasiti, in which he insists on personal guarantees for the workers that would be collecting the money, and for providing a safe environment for them to "check up the substation in the village". Jakovljevic said that this will be secured by EULEX and the Kosovo police. During the emergency assembly meeting, several officials from neighboring Serb villages claimed that the municipal leaders are not able to resolve the power cuts situation. Earlier on Monday, reports said that the residents of the Kosovo village have not had electricity for almost a month. There are some 12,000 Serbs and 3,500 Albanians living in Strpce. Protests were organized several times regarding the electricity problems, but KEK did not turn on the power, stating that the company demands that electricity bills must be paid regularly.
