DSS criticizes work of parliament

The opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) has criticized Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic and her deputies. The party officials say parliamentary rules of procedure were violated during several recent sessions. DSS criticizes work of parliament MP Zoran Sami says this amounts to "introducing non-democracy to the work of parliament by the back door". "When parliamentary agendas are made, items that are irreconcilable are often merged, or a large number of items similar in nature. In that way MPs are unable to fully present their arguments in general debates, or defend their amendments," Sami claims. Djukic-Dejanovic dismissed these accusations saying that "some MPs are angry because of the volume of work in parliament". "I think that what's behind the criticism is the fact that a huge number of laws and other acts this parliament has adopted irritates very much. We do merge items similar in nature, but there's time for quality debates. Those who criticize this spend more than 50 percent of the time commenting on that, as something that's wrong," said the speaker.
