Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic says that his party has decided to form a European Integration Council. He told daily Politika that he had asked officials in Brussels for help to that end. “SNS to form European Integration Council” “I asked for help in training young people that we will ‘throw into the fire,’” said Nikolic, who was in Brussels on Thursday meeting with European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn and Director of the DG Enlargement Unit for the Western Balkans Pierre Mirel. Nikolic said that he had been invited to Brussels by Rehn, adding that he had told the European commissioner that the SNS was in favor of new parliamentary elections and that the new government would not be at odds with experts within the Serbian government, but would “invite everyone to continue doing their own jobs.” “That is true especially for the European Integration Office. They are content with the work of our services, which is why we received a positive report on Serbia’s progress,” the SNS leader said. He said that the European Commission was probably aware that the SNS represented half of the Serbian population, that it was not against European integration, and that it could do much to help. “We especially stressed that the credit lay with all Serbian people and all politicians, and that no one should be singled out for special praise. We all have a lot to do, and everyone has to benefit from it,” Nikolic said.
